The Jambalaya Project

In partnership with the Latta House Foundation, Perfecting The Persona would like to introduce you to a program that is being embraced by North Carolina schools and area non-profits. The Jambalaya Project is a series of music journalism workshops being offered to youth grade 6 through 12. Sessions are conducted by a professional writer and team of interns. It is designed to enhance youths' writing and social skills. In the process they're exposed to the arts as well as an understanding and appreciation for cultural diversity.

This enrichment program promotes character development, independence and self-esteem. Other beneficial components are teambuilding and goal setting. These interactive workshops are coupled with field trips, concerts, and guest speakers. Youth are provided an opportunity to be creative, network with industry professionals, interview a recording artist, and ultimately become a contributing writer through a final project.

Just A Few Highlights From Summers Past……..

We put our best foot forward at a dance studio.
We soared new heights by conquering the climbing wall.
We were on cloud nine while broadcasting on air promotional spots.
We became regular “lawn lizards” at outdoor concerts & theatres.
We showed our musical talents by passing the mic at a recording studio.
We dressed for success at department stores and clothiers.
We voiced our opinions with a music critic.
We delivered a sales pitch for a fund raising effort.
We were drummers to our own beat at a world marketplace.
We gave back to the community through a service project.
We networked with media & recording industry professionals.
We interviewed local, national, and international celebrities.
We “strutted” down the red carpet during our 1 st annual award ceremony.
We became the ultimate music journalism team!
